The Conference pear suits every palate because it can be eaten either firm or soft, depending on its ripeness. It can be consumed crisp before it fully ripens or soft once it has matured. To check if a Conference pear is ripe, gently press the neck: if it’s firm and the skin is smooth, the pear will be crisp. If the stem and skin yield slightly, the pear is riper and softer.
